What are the requirements for obtaining a Visa Electron card? What role does ePassporte play?

Digital River and share-it! offer you the Visa Electron Card in partnership with ePassporte. This means that you will enter a contract with ePassporte. However, you must be registered as a shareware author with share-it!, have an account in good standing with share-it!, and you must already have received at least one payment via share-it!'s systems. In addition, your account with share-it! must have a balance of at least USD 60.00 (or equivalent in another currency) at the time you apply for a Visa Electron Card.
Please note that share-it! can make payments to the Visa Electron Card in USD only. If your account with share-it! is not administered in USD, your payment currency will be changed to USD automatically starting with your first use of your Visa Electron Card as payment type.

What is the process for requesting a Visa Electron card?

The process for requesting a Visa Electron Card is simple. Here are the steps:

  • Log in to the share-it! Control Panel. Go to the Visa Electron Card sub-item in Administration, where you will find all information required as well as the application form.
  • Fill out and send the form. Please note that processing may take between 2 and 4 weeks.
  • ePassporte, the company providing this service, will send you an e-mail with additional information, including how to access the online banking system.
  • If you have received your Visa Electron Card by postal mail, you will still need to activate the card as your payment option in the share-it! Control Panel. Your next payment can only be transferred to your Visa Electron Card once you completed this process.
    Your payment currency will change to USD once you start using your Visa Electron Card, unless your account with share-it! has already been administered in USD before.

Do I need a bank account to use the Visa Electron card?

No, you do not need a new bank account to use this card. However, your Visa Electron Card grants you automatic access to ePassporte's online banking system so you can send bank transfers to other Visa Electron Cards and obtain an overview of your transactions.

Do I need to submit any documentation to apply for a card?

No. However, if you receive a payment of more than USD 5,000 (or the equivalent amount in another currency), or your balance is more than USD 5,000, ePassporte needs a copy of a government-issued ID (such as your passport). In which currency will I receive my money?

Your payment from share-it! will be transferred to your Visa Electron Card in USD because you changed your payment currency to USD when you started using your Visa Electron Card with share-it! (if such a change to USD was required at that time).
If you use your Visa Electron Card to withdraw cash from an ATM, you will typically receive your money in the currency of the country in which the ATM machine is located. If the payment currency and national currency are different, the amount withdrawn from the ATM is converted at a very favorable exchange rate.

Will the Visa Electron card work in ATMs in my country?

Yes, the card will work in almost every country in the world. Nearly a million ATM machines that display the Electron or the PLUS logo will accept the Visa Electron card for cash withdrawals.

Can I use my Visa Electron card for credit card purchases?

Yes, when you open your Visa Electron card account, you will receive a Visa credit card number that you can use for all online purchases and at all stores displaying the Visa logo.

Can I get a second card for my spouse, relative or friend?

No, only one card can be issued per account.

What happens if I receive several payments and do not withdraw or spend my money right away?

Nothing. You can leave your money in your account indefinitely. Your account balance will be guaranteed until you decide to withdraw or spend these funds.

What if I decide that I no longer want to receive payments on the Visa Electron card?

If you wish to change your payment data, please contact the share-it! accounting team at accounting@shareit.com. You can also keep your Visa Electron card so you can still access any remaining money in your account. If you wish to receive payments to your Visa Electron card again in the future, please contact the share-it! accounting team.

Will my Visa Electron card expire?

For security reasons, your Visa Electron Card will automatically expire on the date printed on the card. It will be valid for two years after the date the card is issued. Before your card expires, a new card will be sent to you with a new expiration date.

How do I access my account online, change my card's PIN or view my transaction history?

You will be provided with a special URL in the documentation you receive with your new Visa Electron card. Follow this link to ePassporte's online banking system; ePassporte is the vendor of this system. Once there, you can log in to view your transactions and statements, change your PIN, and view and edit other individual data.
